About the Prize

The Julius Baer Next Generation Art Prize speaks to the communities, creative practitioners and consumers of the future. The prize was open to emerging artists in Southeast Asia, forty years of age and under, who work with the digital image. There are two categories of submission: Still Images and Moving Images. Ten finalists from each category were chosen, and their works are showcased in a virtual exhibition on this website, running from 30 April to 30 June, 2021. An international panel of jurors also selected three prize winners from among the finalists of each category, and their names were announced on 29 April, 2021. Both First Prize winners received 15,000 USD; Second Prize winners, 10,000 USD each; Third Prize winners, 5,000 USD each. In addition, up to 5 Special Mention artists from each category are featured on the Singapore Arts Club website.

The main themes of the prize are Arising Asia, Digital Disruption, Energy Transition, Feeding the World, Future Cities, Shifting Lifestyles and Inequality, and Sustainability. These themes reflect Julius Baer’s Next Generation philosophy, a vision of the future shaped by megatrends that are identified and translated into investment themes for today. In dovetailing with this approach, the prize underlines the importance of the bank’s support of the arts and young talent in the region, as well as a recognition of the art of the future, and the future of art.

Congratulations to the Winners and Finalists on their outstanding achievements!
