The Dragon Sleeps No More depicts a galactic space opera that brings together popular cultural icons of the past and present, along with the characters created by the artist - Lilou, Oomoo, and Gemunggal. This artwork is inspired by the neo-Nanyang style to revitalise the Nanyang artists' integration of the East and West painting traditions by putting a vibrant pop-art spin and making the work relevant to contemporary popular culture and socio-politics.
The artwork reflects the themes of youth and ambition, and the tension between technology and tradition, in a compelling vision of fantasy space warfare. The dragon, a mythical creature symbolising power and good luck in Chinese culture, awakens, heralding a new age of visual culture for Singapore and the region.
