There is a sharp, steep cave with a risk of death that does not appear on Google Maps in Cave on Ocean Wave, present only in our human sensitivity and instinct to explore. In this Gunung Kidul area, death becomes natural—dying as part of the universe's journey. Death and the visual and auditory beauty of crashing waves merge into one, not as a threat but as a message that our transience is beautiful. Death in this place will end in "nowhere," demanding us to be "now here". Our best attitude for the "here and now" becomes the capital to stop fearing the end and instead respect the end of the journey. This cave may never know tourists and their smartphones, but it is a home for humans who feel part of Gaia.

Through a tedious method of layering and scratching, Maryanto creates his monochromatic landscapes in the form of hyperrealistic paintings. Being process-focused, he patiently carves and etches fine lines and forms, gradually revealing the hidden images within the canvas covered in black acrylic paint. In uncovering these images, Maryanto reveals the tensions that lie within these lands between social and economic currency.
