Calamine lotion stages a double confrontation with the apparatus of capture. Depicting a camcorder with its primary lens and rotated LCD screen both oriented toward the viewer, the work denies the expected feedback loop of self-observation. Instead, the screen displays the entropic reality of houseflies mating. This jarring collision between high-tech surveillance and raw biological impulse forces a reflection on the mechanics of our own mediated gaze, where the "Snap" occurs in the gap between the recorded image and the base reality of nature.
