Not to be mistaken for neon art, these works illuminated by LED expound on the artist’s consistent struggle with the challenges of representation and reality. While they capture a fragment of ‘artificial’ light, they point towards underlying processes in nature and phylogenetics (the study of evolutionary relationships) that are dependent on or shaped by light. Such tensions between the natural and man-made are continuously expressed in Sciascia’s works, albeit in a different form, material or context. Echoing Primitive Learning (2021), the cave in Primitive Learning (2021) iterates yet another form of social evolution, where early records of the invention of language can be found.
