An Evening (2025) takes its title from the 1967 Bollywood film An Evening in Paris, whose soundtrack evokes a cherished childhood memory and remains a favourite tune to dance to. The scene features Shaker-style furniture, an Amish quilt, and a carpet beater — domestic motifs arranged within a quietly theatrical space.

The title also recalls Am Abend (1994), painted during the artist’s study of Salome and her Dance of the Seven Veils, part of the fresco cycle in the Braunschweiger Dome. Am Abend formed a trilogy with Wasp and Night Visitor, works that explored the view into an enclosed walled garden — a motif that reappears here, linking to Baju Kurung (2025) and Lawn Mower (2024). In An Evening, these interwoven references form a meditation on ritual, memory, and the enduring rhythm of dance within domestic space.

The artist constructs each composition through a grid-based framework — a habit rooted in early architectural training. This structure informs not only the spatial arrangement but also the patterned surfaces that echo tiled floors or walls. The works adopt a flattened perspective inspired by Etruscan murals, medieval illuminations, Mughal miniatures, and Japanese ukiyo-e prints, drawing from isometric projections to build intimate, ordered spaces.

Familiar rooms become the stage for semi-fictional narratives featuring friends and relatives as recurring characters. These domestic interiors—rearranged, expanded, or subtly altered—reflect a personal and evolving visual language where memory, design, and daily life converge.
