Citra Sasmita will present Sky River in Fountain of Amygdala in Threading Inwards, an exhibition organised by Millchat Hong Kong bringing together 14 Asian artists to explore the spiritual dimensions of textiles.
Drawing on the story of Drupadi from the Mahabharata—where an infinite ocean of cloth protects her from humiliation—the work reinterprets this narrative through Balinese ritual practices, particularly the sacred role of textiles in cremation ceremonies. Through this symbolism, Citra reflects on women’s resilience, and the strength embedded in every piece of cloth, reflecting on how tradition, honor, and collective memory remain vital to our shared human identity across time.
