Justin Loke (b. 1979, Singapore) is a multidisciplinary artist, and director of the art collective vertical submarine. Loke’s notable achievements include receiving the JCCI Japan Foundation Arts Award in 2009. He was the creative director and writer for the Singapore Night Festival Highlight Act, 2022. In 2023, he curated Benchmarks, a placemaking initiative commissioned by the Civic District Alliance, and completed an artist residency and exhibition at Points Center for Contemporary Arts in London-Shanghai-Suzhou. With vertical submarine, he has earned numerous awards, including The President’s Young Talent Award (Singapore, 2009), The Celeste Prize (New York, 2011), and a finalist position for the Sovereign Asian Art Prize (Hong Kong, 2015) and was featured in ROUNDTABLE: The 9th Gwangju Biennale with vertical submarine. Loke has exhibited internationally at major institutions and biennales, including National Gallery Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, Saatchi Gallery (London), Arter (Istanbul), Arndt Gallery (Berlin), Richard Koh Fine Art (Singapore–Bangkok) and Yeo Workshop, Singapore, with which he has collaborated since 2025. Currently, Loke’s work, a new commission, is featured in the group exhibition Art Remembers, at National Gallery Singapore.
