東風｜东风

dōng fēng

【形】比喻革命的、进步的推动力量或气势。a driving force or momentum, especially for revolution or social progress.

【形】也指天长路远，难以与亲人相见，生人做死别；如《红楼梦》中探春的判词“千里东风一梦遥 ”。refers to a long and arduous journey where one is unable to reunite with family and relatives, as expressed in Cao Xueqin's 18th-century novel, Dream of Red Chamber. 

【形】比喻最重要的事物，来源于中国《三国演义》里面：“万事俱备，只欠东风”。an important element or aspect, originating from the 14th century novel Romance of the Three Kingdom：“All is ready except for the east wind (opportunity)".
