In theatre, breaking the fourth wall means breaking the wall of illusion, this series of

plan view paintings has removed the ‘fifth wall’—the ceiling in each of the depicted

rooms. What is exposed, and for us to reflect on, is the relation of production in the

world of art. The artwork is not made solely by the artist; it is also shaped by curators,

art dealers, collectors, gallerists, handlers, and artisans. Each scene is an episode

compartmentalized from a larger block. From this perspective, we are no longer

absorbed in the scene. The distance allows critical detachment and the opportunity

to laugh at ourselves like characters in a comedy.
