Produced as part of Singapore’s SG50 celebrations with support from the SG50 Celebration Fund, A Social Portrait of Singapore: The Critical Years was published by Yeo Workshop in 2015 and brings together 80 photographs by Loke Hong Seng chronicling Singapore’s profound social and urban transformation from the 1960s to the 1980s. The publication features essays by Gael Newton, former Senior Curator of Australian and International Photography at the National Gallery of Australia; writer, curator and photographer Zhuang Wubin; and artist, writer and educator Gilles Massot, offering different perspectives on Loke’s practice and its historical significance.
