LOKE HONG SENG (b. 1943, Singapore) is a fine-art photographer known for his street portraits of Singapore from the 1960s to the 1980s. He began taking photographs with his brother’s camera before acquiring a series of cameras of his own, and joined the Photographic Society of Singapore in 1968. Moving beyond pictorial salon photography, Loke developed a distinctive practice grounded in realistic images of everyday life.
In 1973, Loke received the Golden Award from the 3rd Singapore Photo Art Photography Society. His work was selected for the Photokina Exhibition in Cologne in 1974, where it received the One World for All UNESCO Award, and he exhibited at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris in 1975. His photographs have since been presented in exhibitions and public programmes in Singapore. In 2015, Yeo Workshop organised his first solo exhibition, A Social Portrait of Singapore: The Critical Years, at Gillman Barracks, followed by Trade at the River’s Edge at UOB Art Gallery.
