Maggiori informazioni

The existence of Mount Merapi is not only seen as a geological phenomenon but also believed to have a life of its own as a kingdom. The belief in the existence of creatures that guard the nature of Mount Merapi is reflected in the collection of stories that are often passed down through story-telling to the next generation as a form of transmission of knowledge on the ways, behavior, and reading signs of nature around Mount Merapi. The title Nek Wani Ojo Wedi-Wedi, Nek Wedi Ojo Wani-Wani (If you dare, don't be half-hearted, if you are afraid, don't act as if you are brave) refers to one such story, a Javanese expression that infers to always measure one's strength and determination in making decisions.

‘The Hunters’ is the third edition of ‘Pollination’, curated by Lir and Kittima. The exhibition investigates the mythical notion of the hunter constructed and sustained by the local embodied knowledge of Indonesian artist Maryanto and Thai artist Ruangsak.
Close full details

Provenance

The Hunters is a ‘Pollination’ exhibition resulting from extensive collaborative research undertaken over the last 12 months beneath the volcanic activity of Mount Merapi, Yogyakarta; and along the increasingly dammed river routes of the lower Mekong, on the borders between Thailand and Laos. Prompted by the artistic languages and methods of chosen artists Maryanto and Ruangsak Anuwatwimon, curators LIR and Kittima Chareeprasit have created an exhibition where the practice of sustainable living provokes need of respect for the interdependent wisdom between the human and non-human worlds, evident in local forms of wisdom (or what the curators define as an ‘embodied’ knowledge)
